Godfather Bono

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have apparently chosen Bono to be the godfather of their twins. After the the twins entered the world, Brangelina spent the week at Bono's place in the South of France. That's where they asked him to be the godfather and he immediately accepted.

A source told The Mirror, "They have been friends for years. Brad is a massive U2 fan and told Bono how much he admired him when they were introduced at a party a few years back. Since then, they've become very close, which Brad is thrilled about. Angelina is inspired by Bono's humanitarian work and gets on with his wife Ali Hewson. Ali's given Angelina some clothes from her ethical clothing range Edun."

The Last Lecturer Dies

Randy Pausch, the Carnegie Mellon computer-sciences professor who became an Internet sensation for his upbeat and funny "last lecture" while battling terminal pancreatic cancer, died Friday at his Virginia home at the age of 47, USA Today reports.

In the September 2007 lecture, entitled "Achieving Your Childhood Dreams," an upbeat Pausch commented on everything from education and leadership to dating and his love of Star Trek. The speech – part of the "Last Lecture" series in which speakers imagine they're giving their final lecture before dying – proved very popular on YouTube, leading to a best-selling book and Pausch appearing on The Oprah Winfrey Show and being named Person of the Week by ABC News With Charles Gibson. J.J. Abrams, director of the Star Trek reboot, even gave Pausch a speaking cameo in the upcoming movie.

Pausch is survived by his wife, Jai, and their three children, his mother and sister.

If you haven't heard his lecture, click above and watch it. Truly great.

Majorly bummed about the passing of Estelle Getty. I could watch Golden Girls re-runs all day long, and who can forget her greatness in Mannequin?

Top Gun 2?

Movie bosses want to bring Top Gun back to the big screen, but only if Tom Cruise says yes according to The Sun.

A script outline has been written, but the sequel depends on Cruise, 46, saying yes.

An insider said: “The idea is Maverick is at the Top Gun school as an instructor — and this time it is he who has to deal with a cocky new female pilot.”

All I have to say is, "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!" If Tom is that desperate, he should just quit acting altogether. Let's seek solace in some of my fave Top Gun clips:

Cool!

Sir Elton John has been honored in just about every possible way and now he is being immortalized with his own ice cream. Cool treat kings Ben & Jerry have created a new flavor that will commemorate his first ever concert in Vermont.

The Goodbye Yellow Brickle Road flavor is inspired by the Candle in the Wind hitmakerÂ’s first ever concert in Vermont on July 21, 2008.

The flavor is described as an outrageous symphony of decadent chocolate ice cream, peanut butter cookie dough, butter brickle and white chocolate chunks. The limited edition taste treat will be sold from July 18-25th.

Elton John joins Phish, Jerry Garcia and Dave Matthews, who have all had Ben & Jerry flavors named after them.

Mamma Mia

I'm one of the few folks who chose to see Mamma Mia this weekend instead of The Dark Knight. I'm sure that doesn't surprise any of you readers who know me.

In a nutshell, I enjoyed it. But, I walked away convinced it could have been better. Some of my thoughts:

--The scenery is amazing! I wanted to hop on a plane and go to Greece immediately.

--Was it me, or did everyone in the movie look like they shopped at Anthropologie? Even the furnishings for the Inn looked like they were from there.

--Three cheers for Amanda Seyfried who did a great job as Sophie. She's come a long way from Mean Girls. Can't wait to see her back on Big Love.

--Christine Baranksi and Julie Walters are fabulous as Tanya and Rosie. Frankly, they outshine Streep. Baranski looks like a million bucks in this movie.

--Oh, Meryl. God, I love you. You are the paramount actress of my time. But, DAMN! You can't sing! You redeemed yourself with "The Winner Takes it All," but you're just not equipped for a musical.

--Colin Firth and Stellan Skarsgard both do a nice job as Harry and Bill. Colin's impeccable British humor and timing is just what the doctor ordered in certain parts of the movie.

--Now on to Pierce. Seriously casting people: did he NOT sing for you before you cast him? He is just plain awful--awful to the point that AV and I were laughing hysterically at the mere sound of him. Now, I wasn't complaining when he had his shirt off, but even that couldn't distract me from his wailing. They should have switched Firth and Brosnan's characters. A Meryl-Firth love affair is much more believable than one with Mr. Bond.

--If you are a musical traditionalist, I'm not sure you'll like it. It is over the top--almost to the point of campy. You know how in The Sound of Music or West Side Story they make it seem perfectly normal for people to be singing instead of speaking? Well, in this people come out of the water and start dancing, etc. They almost make fun of the movie-musical at times. But, it totally works. That was one of the most entertaining things about it.

--Still, I'm happy. I love that I'm living in a time when the movie-musical is making a return. Sure, it isn't quite the same as the good old days, but it is a start. What I don't like is the feeling that they need to cast big name stars who can't sing. A few amazing no-names are just fine with me.

Just my two cents. Let me know what you thought!

Brady Not Pleased

A Brady Quinn shirtless photo on a gay dating web site has the Cleveland Browns QB upset. Quinn is not happy about a shirtless picture of him showing up on a site that specializes in men finding men.

The gay dating website shows Quinn, the former first round NFL draft pick and now a quarterback for the Cleveland Browns in a photograph on a cell phone. He can be seen wearing shorts without a shirt, staring into the camera. And a report from TMZ.com claims that Quinn was unaware that his picture was being utilized for a dating website.

The back up quarterback has sent a lawyer to get the website to take the picture down. A blog called Gay Socialites has the snap here.

The Cleveland Browns have even issued a statement saying that Quinn was unaware that his likeness was being utilized. The Cleveland Browns start training camp later this month where Quinn will vye for the starting QB position. Quinn signed a five-year deal with the Browns worth a reported $20.2 million, with $7.5 million guaranteed.

This warranted a statement from the Cleveland Browns?

Mad Men dominated again. And, it looks like I need to start watching Pushing Daisies, and watch John Adams , Recount, and Bernard and Doris. The supporting actor in a comedy series is the strongest I've seen in years. I'm also really glad to see that Intervention on A&E got a nod for reality program. If you haven't watched it, do. I'm obsessed. It is very emotional and shows a side of addiction I've never seen.

SJP Removed Her Mole?

An unairbrushed photo of Sarah Jessica Parker, 43, emerged at the 79th MLB All-Star Game at Yankee Stadium in New York on Tuesday, in which her beauty mark is noticeably missing, the Huffington Post reported Wednesday.

Last month at the MTV Movie awards, Parker's mole was clearly visible. “It’s true. She did have it done," a friend of Parker tells Usmagazine.com. "There was no reason for it, it wasn’t because she didn’t like her mole, and it wasn’t because of any medical reason, it was simply because she was in the mood to have it removed. That’s all.”

The Huffington Post pointed out that The New York Observer's Rex Reed made a cruel remark about Parker's mole in his harsh review of Sex and the City: The Movie. "There's nothing wrong with Sarah Jessica Parker, that couldn't be cured by wart-removal surgery. That growth on her face just gets bigger with every close-up, and in the full-length movie version of Sex and the City it's so distracting you can't concentrate on anything else," Reed wrote. "It's not a beauty mark. I guess you can't tell a co-producer anything, but listen up, girl. At this point, you would make a wonderful Halloween witch."

Bret and Ambre Split Up

Poison frontman Bret Michaels and actress Ambre Lake made it official today: Their tour together ends here.

“It’s really sad,” says Lake, who explained that conflicting schedules ultimately worked against the couple. “Bret and I truly love each other and support each other. But with him touring so much and me trying to travel and work, we just didn’t have a lot of time to dedicate to our relationship. It was mutual. We’re both bummed.”

In a release from VH1, a rep for the rock star confirmed: “[Bret] and Ambre Lake really tried to make it work and although they still remain close friends, between his tour line-up and her work schedule there’s no time for a relationship.” Lake adds, “It’s a lot of pressure. We were dating and taking it day by day. We never put a label on us saying, ‘We are boyfriend-girlfriend.’ But when a budding romance is happening like that and you don’t have a lot of time to see each other, you’re being pulled in so many directions.”

She also says there were no third parties involved. “Absolutely not,” says Lake. “I’ve never thought that he was seeing other people or anything like that.”

Lake, who recently moved to L.A. from her native Chicago to pursue her career, also made it clear that she completely backs MichaelsÂ’s decision to take the show on the road for a third installment. This time itÂ’s called Rock of Love Bus with Bret Michaels and the women vying for his affection will follow the rocker on a month-long tour across the country.

“Third time’s the charm!” says Lake, who plans to watch the new season and is happy to be a sounding board for Michaels. “I can’t stress enough that I support his decision. He’s going to take it on the road, and that’s where he spends the majority of his life. What a great concept.”

How will she cope with the heartbreak in the meantime? “I’ve been surrounding myself with close friends and I’m visiting my family next week,” says Lake. “And working out is very therapeutic for me.” It also helps that she and Michaels will remain great friends. “Our relationship isn’t over — we’re going to be friends forever,” she says. “We’re still going to talk, we’re still going to support each other. I’m going to his concert in Atlanta in a couple weeks. I’ll hug him like I always do. And then we’ll laugh and hang with Big John.”

Wicked News!

The wildly successful Broadway musical Wicked is going to be making the transition to the big screen. Much like Chicago, Hairspray and most recently Mama Mia! before it, Wicked is in the process of being adapted into a movie. This new production will be handled by Marc Platt Productions for Universal Pictures.

Marc Platt has extended his contract with Universal Pictures for five years, according to Variety. Marc Platt Productions currently has several projects of interest to theatre plans in the works, including a film version of the international hit Wicked, a remake of the 1973 Andrew Lloyd Webber-Tim Rice film “Jesus Christ Superstar” and a new motion picture about the life of the late composer George Gershwin.

Universal Pictures production president Donna Langley told the industry paper, “Our goal now is absolutely to make the Wicked film, but much like Judy Craymer wouldn’t give up screen rights to Mamma Mia! until the stage show had reached its pinnacle, Marc and Stephen Schwartz are very mindful of the right timing. But we’re dying to do it.” Platt told Variety that he and Wicked co-producer David Stone are currently in “early movie talks” with the studio. Winnie Holzman, who penned the Tony-nominated book for Wicked, will write the film’s screenplay. No casting has been mentioned.
